Below are the second and third parts of the commentary on my presentation to the national SOFiA conference .....and here again is the link to the full presentation: http://prezi.com/bq9cuhninz0f/awakening-faith-in-an-alternative-future/
Presence: An Exploration of Profound Change in People,
Organizations and Society by Peter Senge, Otto
Scharmer, Joseph Jaworski and Betty Sue Flowers is one of the key books for
describing the notions contained in my presentation.
My presentation explained why the metaphor of
a “U shape” had been used to illustrate presencing. I spoke about the typical
(“status quo”) approach to looking at the world as transactional: Party A sees
a problem and seeks to “act on/control” Party B to get a solution. The world –
in this viewpoint – is known, clear, straight-forward and mechanical (supposedly,
but that is seldom actually the case). Much of western language demonstrates
these “act upon the other” characteristics and I demonstrated this with
examples.
The curvature of the U suggests a different
way of looking at the world. Here life is “gift.” Party A seeks to deepen knowledge of the
present situation and incorporate the wisdom and integrity of Party B and
others. It is a poetic and non-colonising journey.
